Montana Branded Beef Association (MBBA)
About Us
The Montana
Branded Beef Association’s membership is comprised of forward-looking
leaders and innovators. Our members share a common tie, in their desire to
build a stronger relationship with members of the beef consuming public
and partners in the beef industry.
This is evidenced as a person looks at the industry leadership and
participation that our members display, as well as the awards and
acknowledgments our members have received for their efforts.
Environmental Stewardship:
Since 1991, MBBA members have received at least seven state, regional or
national awards for their environmental stewardship practices. This
remarkable record of care for the land and its resources is the rule
rather than the exception with our membership.

Industry Leadership:
While MBBA is not a politically driven organization, MBBA’s members are
active leaders in the beef industry. More than 17 of MBBA’s members have
held volunteer, elected or appointed positions in the Montana Stockgrowers
Association, R-CALF, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Montana and
National Beef Councils, Montana State Senate and Montana House of
Representatives.
Forward-Looking Beef Production and Quality Assurance Standards:
Under the principle of consistently providing safe, wholesome and high
quality beef to consumers and customers, MBBA’s members have imposed
stringent beef production and quality assurance standards on themselves.
Every member must adopt and utilize national Beef Quality Assurance
Program standards, evidenced by their BQA certification numbers.
MBBA’s members fall into the category of “early-adopters” with regard to
individual animal identification and the mandates of the National Animal
Identification System (NAIS). Every animal marketed through MBBA’s program
has been source and process verified. Members apply for their NAIS premise
ID numbers, and individually identify each of the calves marketed through
the MBBA program. This system fosters complete traceability between
finished consumer ready beef products, the cattle enrolled in the program,
and the ranches and feedyards involved in producing those animals. While
the livestock regulatory sector requires this information as an aid in
fulfilling their animal disease detection and control mandates, MBBA’s
members use the information generated by each of the production segments
to make better genetic and management decisions, which will result in a
higher quality and more consistent product for our customers.
